Today in chemistry we watched an interview with Neil Degrasse Tyson. In the interview, there were many things that Neil Degrasse Tyson stated that were very interesting. Including how he said that with no doubt knowing is better than not knowing. Though Neil Degrasse had excellent views on all of the questions asked, my favorite quote in the interview was actually a question asked by the host, Stephen Colbert. The question may not be considered a quote, but I thought it was a very interesting question. "What is the most beautiful thing in science?" I think this quote can be answered in many different ways, but Neil Degrasse had a very interesting outlook on it. He said the most beautiful things in science are the simple things that account for complex things. An example he gave was pi. Pi is just a number 3.14..., but it can be used to figure out much more complex things, like the circumference of the earth. I chose this quote out of all of the others, because it has a much deeper meaning than what you just see in the sentence. Also there are just so many possible answers to this question, and that makes it beautiful. This quote may mean a lot of different things to different people, but to me it means that in life you have to go through so much, and you may think that doing all these great and/or large things will make a great difference, but in the end all those small simple things that you do also count, quite immensely. While reading this quote it provoked a lot of thoughts, but it really made me think how small we are, and how small earth is compared to the universe. It's just so incredible that small organisms like us can make such great accomplishments.
